Old Market - Omaha

The weather here has been absolutely delightful these past few days. Saturday we decided to venture over to the Old Market section of Omaha. I took a few photos with my phone and thought I'd share...

This is a water way on the border of the Old Market area. This is in East Omaha, where all of the high rise buildings are, very much different from where we live.

These cement pads are not connected. We made sure to remind Austin to step over the cracks quite a few times. I'm still surprised that he didn't manage to fall in.

These carriages were available for tours. Although I don't see the point, the area isn't very big and there really isn't all that much to see. There were a lot of restaurants and some vintage shops, but that's about it. Maybe 20 blocks total, manageable on foot easily. But the horses were happily munching on oats I presume.

Here Gregg was reading up on these arches. I was distracted by Payton's choice of outfit.

Here's Austin posing by some sort of street art. It reminded me of the decorated dolphin in NC and the decorated mermaids in VA.

Payton took a photo of Gregg and I. While we were out we happened across the Omaha Convention and Visitors Bureau. We got some good maps and some information about popular tourist attractions in the area while there.

This park area was near where we parked. It was crowded with all sorts of people. Most of which were on the sketchy side, so I don't believe we'll be going back to this park again...

The kids enjoyed these huge slides though. Kids were carrying around wax paper and plastic sheeting to slide down the slide on, apparently those items make you got faster?

I Just Love Her Honesty

Payton is required to choose a current event article each week. When I got her Friday folder back today, this was inside...

Obviously she was in quite the hurry to get this paper finished so she could go out and play after school, with all of the grammar and spelling mistakes. But take note of what's in the parenthesis at the bottom. I just love brutal honesty. I would rather someone tell me the truth than lie to me because they are afraid of the outcome or hurting my feelings. I'm glad Payton understands this. Her teacher, Mrs. Coleman, has a very good sense of humor also. She enjoys this sort of thing and, therefore, they are a good match.

Ooooh! I LOVE Etsy!

I have been looking for a new funky camera strap for some time. I finally found one I LOVE and had to order it. I wasn't too keen on the quick release tabs, so I had it made without them.

Close up. All of these photos were taken with my camera phone, so they aren't all that great...
But the strap is beautiful and just funky enough.

Don't pay attention to the wind blown lady wearing the camera, it has been a long day.

It looks to be purple and blue in this photo, but the colors are actually grey and blue/green. It also has a really nice, soft fuzzy material lining that is so nice on my neck. I just love it!

The Dessert Salad

Because this is one of the most disgusting things I have ever witnessed, I must share. Surely I am not the only person who things this is beyond words.

My husband LOVES Ruby Tuesday merely for the salad bar. He always gets the bar, no matter what, and he always goes back numerous times. But the last time he goes back, after his main course, he brings this back...

This is known as the "Dessert Salad." Note there is nothing green here on the plate to speak of. Name every single thing that is bad for you that you could possibly put on a salad, and it is piled on a plate and covered with creamy dressing.

This dessert salad consisted of: croutons, bacon, sunflower seeds, cheese, and black olives - all covered in creamy dressing, with a little cottage cheese on the side.

And apparently, the trend of the dessert salad has caught on. Here's Payton following in her fathers footsteps.
