On another subject, I've noticed that my "Flashback Friday" posts have made it from coast to coast. While blog lurking recently I've found such posts from as far away as L.A. - how crazy is that?
Order talks started today, and it might get interesting. There is a Tinker AFB billet (in Oklahoma) that is available, but might require Gregg to do a 6 month IA (individual augmentee - a 6 month tour to somewhere like Guantanamo Bay, Cuba). We'd love to be back in Oklahoma, but the billet wouldn't be competitive, combined with the IA make not worth it in my opinion.
Gregg just isn't that Navy guy who will do anything to get out of doing a sea tour mind you. He's on his third consecutive sea tour now, so I think it's about time for some real shore duty. Since he'll be retiring in 6 years (2 duty stations from now), it's quite important for him to have some billets with other Intelligence Officers. Gregg is really wanting to make 0-4 in normal time, so a competitive billet is necessary.
Nebraska is competitive, doesn't require an IA and isn't a problem for us to get according to the detailer, but we won't be "penciled in" for orders until Friday or so. And then actual orders in hand wouldn't happen until August. I guess it's time to start thinking about putting the house on the market this spring. The kids and I could be back in the midwest as early as June/July, while Gregg finishes up his tour here until November.
